Due to the ongoing and urgent situation regarding African Swine Fever and the spread of this dangerous and highly contagious disease in certain parts of Serbia, the Minister of Agriculture has scheduled a high-level state meeting for today.
The high-level meeting will be attended by representatives from the relevant ministry, the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces, the Interior Ministry (MUP), and other competent institutions.
Additionally, representatives from the Office of the President of the Republic, the Office of the Prime Minister, as well as the heads of administrative districts and representatives of local authorities in territories where outbreaks of African Swine Fever have been registered, will also be present.
At an emergency meeting of the National Crisis Centre for the Control of African Swine Fever on Friday, the current epizootiologic situation was analysed, with particular focus on the virus entering large farms and the especially complex epizootiologic situation in the Mačva and Srem districts, as well as the city of Belgrade area.
During the discussion, it was noted that as of 9 July 2026, African Swine Fever had been confirmed in domestic pigs across 496 holdings in 18 municipalities and 8 administrative districts. In the affected holdings, 1,015 pigs died from the disease, while 10,515 animals were humanely culled.
On Friday, the Ministry appealed to all pig owners and keepers to rigorously implement the prescribed biosecurity measures.
“It is of vital importance that any death or sign of illness in pigs is reported immediately to the competent vet or veterinary inspection. Furthermore, pigs must not be moved or traded contrary to the prescribed measures, animals of unknown health status should not be purchased, and under no circumstances should the carcasses of dead animals be disposed of improperly,” the Ministry of Agriculture announced.
