Dangal, headlined by Aamir Khan, is still Indian cinema’s biggest grosser, and the reason behind it is its mind-blowing performance in China. It appears that Hindi cinema is once again aiming to capture the world’s second-largest theatrical market.
According to an exclusive report in Mid-day, the makers of Ramayana are keen on releasing the film in China. “Discussions are underway with Chinese exhibitors and distributors for a four-day promotional tour led by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi. The tentative itinerary includes a press event and screening at the Pingyao International Film Festival on September 24, followed by a multi-city promotional run during China’s Golden Week beginning October 1.”
If the makers of Ramayana go ahead with the China release as reported, and if the content clicks, the film could generate massive revenue from the market. The makers intend to position the Ranbir Kapoor starrer on a global stage. It remains to be seen how much of an impact the film will create.
