For the Indian team, which has failed to secure a single victory during its tour of England & Ireland so far, nothing changed in the fifth T20 match on Saturday either. England defeated India by 56 runs, completing a clean sweep.
With this, the England team has risen to the top of the ICC T20 rankings. Meanwhile, an unwanted record has been added to India’s name: this marks the first time India has suffered a clean sweep in back-to-back series. Previously, Ireland had defeated India in a two-match T20 series.
Team India has suffered a clean sweep in two consecutive T20 International series. After a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Ireland, India was handed a 0-4 thrashing by England. The Indian team has slipped to the second spot in the latest ICC T20 International rankings, dropping one place.
Status of ICC T20 International Team Rankings
It was already certain that if India lost the fifth T20 International match, it would lose the number-1 spot. India appeared overwhelmed by England, and the defeat cost them the top ranking; England has now become the new number-1. England holds a rating of 268 from 38 T20 International matches, while India also holds a rating of 268 from 58 matches. With this India’s reign as the number 1 T20I side in the world ended after 1602 days.
Australia occupies the third spot with a rating of 260 from 38 T20 International matches. New Zealand and South Africa remain firmly in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Notably, while the positions of India and England have changed, there have been no other alterations in the top-10 team rankings.
