Norway coach Stale Solbakken has dismissed Fifa’s verdict on England’s World Cup quarter final equaliser, insisting it was “clear” the ball hit overhead camera equipment in the build up to the goal.

The Norway bench was furious after claiming a goal kick from their goalkeeper deflected off a Spidercam cable and landed at midfielder Elliot Anderson’s feet, before he began the move that led to Jude Bellingham making it 1-1.

Fifa said there was “no evidence” the ball had hit the cable, pointing to data recorded by a chip inside the ball which they say suggested there was no contact.

However, Solbakken refused to accept Fifa’s version of events in his post-match press conference, saying: “I think it’s pretty clear that it did [hit the cable].”
