The members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić, sent a letter of condolence to the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for the death of his father, the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

“It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the death of your father, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. On behalf of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on my own behalf, I send you my dear friend, the respected members of the royal family and the friendly people of the State of Qatar, my most sincere condolences.

His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be remembered as a visionary statesman who, with his leadership, made an exceptional contribution to the development of the State of Qatar and its positioning as an important and respected international actor. His dedication to dialogue, development and humanitarian values left a strong mark beyond the borders of the State of Qatar,” Bećirović’s letter states.

He emphasizes that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will remember him as a sincere and close friend of our country, who showed solidarity and provided selfless political, humanitarian and development support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the most difficult moments of our history. His visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1998 and 2010 represented a strong symbol of friendship and support, and laid the foundations for even more meaningful relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State of Qatar.

“I also take this opportunity to thank Your Highness for your continued engagement and contribution to strengthening the friendship between our peoples and states. Please accept, Your Highness and dear friend, the expressions of my special respect,” the letter states.

The letter sent by Presidency member Željko Komšić emphasizes that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be remembered as a statesman of vision who, with his leadership, marked an epoch in Qatar’s development, transforming his country into an important and respected player on the regional and global stage.

“I had the opportunity to meet him personally and I will always remember his warmth, dignity and sincere help and friendship that he provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina when we needed it most. In these moments of sadness, I ask you to accept my deepest condolences, with the wish that the memory of his life and work will be a lasting comfort to his family and the people of Qatar,” said Komšić.
