BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A central Vermont teacher hailed a “life changer”.
Each year, 16 educators and their schools across the country get the award and a cash prize.
Today, out of hundreds of nominations, Northfield Elementary PE teacher Mike Gonneville won.
He’s worked at the school for nearly 50 years.
Both he and the school were awarded $2,500 each.
He says he’s honored, but his true goal is to encourage his students to be successful.
“You don’t have to have a lot of money to be successful, but you have to make a difference. That’s the biggest thing I share with them. Make a difference in the lives of others. So, my hope is, as they grow up, I see them do that. I see them learn from what we’ve talked about all these years,” said Gonneville.
The award is given by the National Life Group, based here in Vermont.
