2nd Meeting of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of Organization of Turkic States convenes in Baku
AKIPRESS.COM – Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev delivered a keynote speech at the 2nd Meeting of the Heads of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) of the OTS, which was held Baku, Azerbaijan.
In his speech, the OTS Secretary General highlighted the transformation of the International Forum of Financial Intelligence Units into a permanent mechanism for sustained cooperation within the OTS. He emphasized that the newly established FIU Cooperation Platform will provide the essential structured framework for information exchange and joint action required to combat financial crime and protect the integrity of regional financial systems.
Ambassador Omuraliev further outlined the OTS’s strategic expansion of economic governance, citing the operationalization of the Turkic Investment Fund, the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement, and the high-level coordination through the Meeting of Ministers of Economy, Agriculture, Energy, Transport and Customs, as well as the Turkic Green Finance Council and the Council of Central Banks. He stressed that robust collaboration among financial intelligence units is vital to ensuring these growing trade and investment networks remain secure, transparent, and resilient against emerging financial threats.
The agenda of the event also featured leadership panel with speeches from the heads of the participating FIUs. The forum included in-depth presentations on topics such as the assessment of risks related to virtual assets, national experiences in countering the use of digital assets for money laundering and terrorist financing.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a joint Communiqué of the 2nd Meeting and Memorandum of Understanding on establishment of the Cooperation Platform of Financial Intelligence Units of the Member States of the OTS.
