DE Sen. Hocker and Town Manager Press Against Ocean View Post Office Contruction Delays

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – After the Ocean View Post Office abruptly shut its doors in Oct. 2025, local leaders are demanding answers as to when the location will reopen.

“For months now, residents and businesses in the Ocean View area have been without access to their local post office while the facility remains closed for repairs,” said Delaware Senate Republican Leader Gerald Hocker in a statement on Thursday. “Unfortunately, despite repeated inquiries, the United States Postal Service has failed to provide a timeline for when repairs will begin or when the post office will reopen.”

The United State Postal Service (USPS) has reportedly advised lawmakers that the repair project remains active and that the organizations is currently evaluating potential interim solutions. Yet, Sen. Hocker says solutions aren’t coming to Ocean View residents quickly enough.

“Frankly, the amount of time it has taken to reach even the early stages of a solution is disgraceful,” Hocker continued. “Residents deserve far better communication and a much greater sense of urgency in resolving this matter.”

Town officials also say they have received no word from the agency on when the post office will reopen.

Town Manager Carol Houck said state and federal legislators have been supportive of their cause to secure a post office and encouraged residents to reach out to them.

“Some of the things that we’ve heard from the community, primarily, is the difficulty accessing the Bethany Post office, especially during the peak period,” she said, adding that the abrupt closure of the box office left residents suddenly unable to access P.O. boxes. “The best way to describe it would be the perceived failure of the Federal Post Office to provide any updates to the community.”

Senator Hocker says he and Delaware Representative Ronald Gray have remained in constant contact with USPS and are coordinating closely with federal partners in an effort to move the process forward.
