Thirty-two accidents were registered at industrial and mining enterprises in Tajikistan in the first six months of 2026, leaving 21 people dead and 19 others injured, officials said.
The figures were announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 7 by Ardasher Mirzozoda, First Deputy Head of the State Supervision Service for Industrial and Mining Safety.
According to him, the dead included two Chinese citizens and one Iranian citizen. Foreign nationals from China and Russia were also among those injured.
Mirzozoda said the Iranian citizen died during construction work at the Roghun hydropower plant, while the two Chinese citizens died at the Adrasman mine and the Shurob coal mine.
Over the same period, four accidents were recorded at coal enterprises, resulting in three deaths and two injuries. Three of the incidents occurred at the Shurob mine in Isfara, and another at the Barakati Safo mine in Ayni district.
According to Mirzozoda, the main cause of these accidents was failure to comply with safety requirements during underground coal mining.
The Service said 66 people, including representatives of four enterprises, were held administratively liable for identified violations. The total amount of fines reportedly reached 225,270 somoni.
Four killed at Shugnov gold mine
During the press conference, officials also gave details for the first time about the tragedy at the Shugnov gold mine in Khovaling district, where four people died on May 23.
According to Mirzozoda, a rock mass collapsed from a height of about 30 meters during road construction work. Two excavators and a truck were buried under the debris.
Three drivers and one employee of the company Dastras-2011 were killed.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old Rahmiddin Gadoyev, 21-year-old Alisherpour Mirmahmadzoda, 42-year-old Saymurod Sayedov and 46-year-old Umarali Zabirov.
The Service said one-time financial assistance totaling 2.079 million somoni had been paid to the families of those killed and injured. This information has not yet been independently verified.
At the same time, the Service did not specify how many criminal cases had been opened over safety violations that led to deaths.
Officials said only that investigations had been launched against the management of several facilities, including the Karomati Davlat gas station, Penjin Technology, the Izatullo-2017 brickworks, the “3000th Anniversary of Hisor” sand and gravel extraction enterprise, and a children’s park in Dushanbe.
The agency said most industrial accidents in Tajikistan’s industrial and mining sectors are linked to violations of labor protection and safety rules.
