LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A TikTok trend called the “NeeDoh challenge” has gone viral. The trend caught the eyes of authorities.

The trend consists of putting the NeeDoh, a gel-filled toy, into the microwave. This action can cause the toy to explode. Children across the country are experiencing up to third degree burns when partaking in the trend.

NeeDoh has skyrocketed in popularity and the TikTok trend surged the popularity even more. Children say they need the toys in order to pay attention, saying it helps to do something with their hands.

With the prominence comes warnings from officials of many states. Fire officials and doctors across the country said the gel inside can boil within seconds when microwaved. When moved, the toy can explode causing serious burns to places like to hands, face and chest.

NeeDoh has worked with social media platforms to ensure safety of users including adding a warning on the packaging.
