A family of ten lost their home in the hills of Fagatogo to a fire on Friday evening.

Director of the Department of Search and Rescue Utumoe Alefosio said they received the call about the fire at 5:07 pm Friday. The one fire truck stationed at the Fagatogo fire station responded however it took a while for firefighters to reach the scene as the home is situated at a very high elevation.

Rep Malaeoletalu Melesio Gurr is helping coordinate assistance for the family which includes a 71 year old grandmother, 18 to 49 year olds and 4 babies between 1 and 4 years old. The family is in need of clothing, cooking utensils, bedding, towels, toiletries and storage containers.

The family is currently being housed at the Catholic Church hall in Fagatogo.
