The Ministry of Education, through the OECS Skills and Innovation Project (SKIP) Grenada, has completed the in-person phase of a Transversal Skills Integration Training for teachers from the T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) and the New Life Organisation (NEWLO).
Delivered across 2 cohorts between 22 June and 2 July 2026, the training supported participating teachers in strengthening the integration of transversal skills into technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Transversal skills, including communication, teamwork, collaboration, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, professional ethics, resilience, and adaptability, are essential to preparing students not only with technical competence, but also with the wider skills needed for employment, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, and active participation in their communities.
The training placed strong emphasis on practical teaching strategies, inclusive and responsive instruction, learner support, lesson planning, and the assessment of transversal skills. It also addressed key areas such as gender responsiveness, special educational needs, disaster risk management in education, competency-based education and training, and adult learning approaches.
Led by consultant and main facilitator Frances Edwards, the sessions combined practical exercises, group activities, case studies, peer discussions, and lesson planning. Teachers reflected on their classroom practice and explored how transversal skills can be meaningfully integrated into teaching, learning, and assessment. With the in-person sessions now complete, the training will move into its next stage of support during the new academic year. This phase will focus on practical application by reviewing and refining lesson plans that integrate transversal skills into teaching practice.
The training builds on the collaboration formalised through the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and the Grenada National Training Agency, and reflects OECS SKIP Grenada’s continued commitment to strengthening technical and vocational instruction, workforce readiness, resilience, and inclusion.
