LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Since Monday, June 29, the Log Road Fire near Sioux County has consumed over 1,500 acres across northwest Nebraska. As of July 2, 21% of the wildfire has been contained.
There have been no evacuations as of yesterday.
State, local, federal and volunteer firefighters continue to limit the fire’s spread.
According to South Central Wildland Taskforce, they helped with cutting and removing debris. They acknowledge many departments who helped including the Nebraska National Guard (NENG). The NENG delivered 34,000 gallons of water to support the goal of stopping it. Nineteen Nebraska Army National Guard soldiers helped during this time.
Gov. Jim Pillen issued an emergency declaration due the Log Road Fire. Pillen’s declaration says, “I hereby direct the Nebraska Adjutant General, who also serves as State Disaster Coordinator, to activate appropriate State emergency plans and to take such steps as he deems necessary to meet this emergency and to continue these actions until such time as the threat to life and property created by this situation has been alleviated.”
Officials and volunteers continue to combat the fire.
