Ahead of the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, a two-day international scientific conference dedicated to researching, documenting and preserving the truth about the genocide began in Sarajevo.

Through four thematic panels, local and international experts talk about the legal, historical and social aspects of the genocide, as well as the challenges of preserving the culture of memory and opposing its denial.

The focus of the conference is not only the facts established by the court, but also the question of how to preserve them in the public space and pass them on to future generations. Participants believe that genocide denial requires a sustained response based on research and facts.

The conference continues tomorrow, when new research on the genocide in Srebrenica will be presented and the challenges of preserving the culture of memory will be discussed.

The organizers say that the goal of such gatherings is for scientifically based facts to remain a permanent response to genocide denial and historical revisionism.
