Authorities in the Abyei Special Administrative Area have launched an initiative to support families by providing between 3 to 4 goats per household to help improve livelihoods.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in an effort to ease growing food insecurity and other economic challenges affecting communities.
“Distributed a number of goats to families in different locations in Abyei Administrative Area. Each family received 3 to 4 goats to support livelihoods of our civilians for them to live a normal life, like life before. And one the things the government does is to support families with goats to support them in their daily lives,” he said.
Speaking to Eye Radio, Minister of Information Yohana Akol said the initiative is aimed at strengthening household resilience and restoring basic living conditions.
He said goats were distributed to families across different locations in the Abyei Administrative Area, with each household receiving 3 to 4 goats.
The ministry said the programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as part of ongoing efforts to improve food security and support vulnerable households in the region.
