The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), is pleased to sponsor 3 award categories for the 2026 Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s (CBU’s) Media Awards, scheduled for Guyana in August.

As part of efforts to encourage environmental reporting, particularly showing land degradation as a lived reality and the vulnerability of communities — as resilient and capable of restoration — PISLM is sponsoring the Best Television Production on Land Degradation Neutrality and Best Digital Production on Land Degradation Neutrality.

“We do not see the media as observers; we see you as partners, because the stories you tell shape the decisions that shape our land,” remarked Executive Director Dr Ronen Francis, as he presented remarks at the launch of the 57th Annual General Assembly and Media awards on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.

Emphasising the pivotal role of the various media representatives across the Caribbean, Francis explained that the media “Does something no technical report can fully achieve, by making the issues human; showing land degradation as a lived reality within communities.”

Across the Caribbean, we are blessed with extraordinary landscapes- rich ecosystems, fertile soils, and communities deeply connected to the land, but across our Small Island Developing States (SIDS), that land is under increasing pressure- limited space, competing demands, climate stress and land degradation, pressures that erode our food security, water security and long-term resilience.

The Executive Director believes that the organisation’s sponsorship promotes awareness, advocacy, accountability and work directly aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15 — Life on Land — and the global effort to halt and reverse land degradation.

PISLM remains committed to supporting media representatives in the Caribbean who are not only producing content but shaping public will, improving visibility of challenges with land and accomplishments within the region, along with strengthening the foundation for land restoration in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (CSIDs).
