Palau internet users experienced disruptions Saturday after an underground fiber cut on Docomo Pacific’s network in Guam knocked out service for customers of Palau Mobile and Palau Telcom. Belau Submarine Cable Corporation confirmed its own network was unaffected — and service has since been restored.

KOROR, Palau — An underground fiber cut on Docomo Pacific’s network in Guam disrupted internet and mobile services for some customers of two Palau telecommunications providers Saturday, June 27, according to company officials.
Palau Mobile and Palau Telcom, both of which use Docomo Pacific as their IP transit carrier — a service that routes traffic through a provider’s network to the global internet — experienced service outages as a result of the cut.
Belau Submarine Cable Corporation CEO Rhinehart Silas confirmed that BSCC’s own fiber infrastructure was not involved.
“BSCC network is fine,” Silas said, adding there was no break on the BSCC fiber network.
According to information released by Docomo Pacific on Saturday, the underground cut affected the company’s fiber infrastructure in Guam, disrupting mobile and internet services in parts of the island before spreading to its Palau carrier partners.
Service was restored after Docomo Pacific rerouted traffic through an alternative network path, Silas said.
