Somos Pueblo files constitutional challenge against new Penal Code

Santo Domingo.- Digital platform Somos Pueblo Media, represented by Ricardo Augusto Ripoll García and Eduardo Daniel Sánchez Tolentino, filed a direct action of unconstitutionality before the Constitutional Court challenging several provisions of Organic Law No. 74-25, which establishes the country’s new Penal Code.

The appeal seeks to annul Articles 192, 208, 209, 210, 211 and 310, arguing that they violate constitutional principles and infringe on fundamental rights, particularly the rights to freedom of expression and access to information.

The legal challenge was submitted with the support of attorneys Pedro Virginio Balbuena and Francisco Alejandro Aristy, who represent the journalists before the Constitutional Court.
