IDAHO FALLS — A wave of unseasonably cooler temperatures will continue for the next several days before rising into the 80s by mid-week. That’s the general weather outlook in eastern Idaho from the National Weather Service in Pocatello.
Following Saturday’s cold front and winter weather advisory for parts of eastern Idaho, meteorologist John Keyes tells EastIdahoNews.com several mountainous areas above 8,000 feet received some snow. Lost Trail Pass, north of Salmon on the Idaho-Montana border, got snow; so did Gilmore Summit near Leadore, and higher elevations near Island Park.
Keyes says it’s hard to say how much snow fell in those areas, but as of Sunday morning, “snow is accumulating on the ground” on Lost Trail Pass.
“It’s not accumulating on U.S. Highway 93 going over the pass,” Keyes says. “Nothing major that we’re seeing on any of our passes is causing problems.”

Breezy conditions will continue Sunday and Monday, the weather service says, and there may be some scattered showers Monday morning.
Looking ahead through the rest of the week, meteorologist Vernon Preston says, “Temperatures will be a little bit below normal through Tuesday.”
“Down here in the valley, we’re probably going to be in the 60s and go back in the low 70s (by Wednesday),” Preston says.
Daytime temperatures are expected to be back in the 80s by about Thursday, with overnight lows in the 50s.
Preston says there was also a hint of showers in the forecast for Friday. Wind gusts of 15 to 30 mph may accompany that rainstorm, but the Fourth of July holiday on Saturday is looking sunny and warm.
“Fortunately, for the Fourth, looks like a ridge of high pressure and nice weather,” Preston says.
A typical afternoon breeze is expected on the holiday, as well.
