Tavuli News signed a media cooperation agreement with Guizhou Today Convergent Media Group on Saturday to strengthen journalism exchanges and media collaboration between the Solomon Islands and China’s Guizhou Province.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Guiyang on 27 June during a study tour involving a Solomon Islands media delegation. Tavuli News was represented by journalist Jeremy Gwao.

Tavuli News Guizhou Cooperation

Tavuli News is an independent multimedia news organisation based in the Solomon Islands. Guizhou Today Convergent Media Group is one of Guizhou Province’s major integrated media organisations, publishing news across digital, print, broadcast and social media platforms.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in news exchanges, joint reporting, journalist exchanges and professional development.

Under the memorandum, both organisations will exchange news content covering culture, tourism, economic and social development, and areas of bilateral cooperation for publication on their respective platforms.

The agreement also provides opportunities for journalists from both organisations to undertake exchange visits and reporting assignments, allowing them to gain first-hand experience of each country’s media industry.

Guizhou Today Convergent Media Group will also provide training opportunities for Tavuli News journalists in digital journalism, multimedia storytelling, new media operations and emerging communication technologies.

The Tavuli News Guizhou partnership provides a framework for future collaboration through content sharing, journalist exchanges and professional development over the next three years.

Supporting Professional Development

The two organisations also intend to explore a young journalist exchange programme and collaborate on multimedia reporting projects covering topics of mutual interest.

The memorandum forms a framework for future cooperation between the organisations, with specific projects to be developed separately as opportunities arise.

The agreement took effect upon signing and will remain in place for three years.

The memorandum was signed during the Solomon Islands media delegation’s study tour of Guizhou Province. Throughout the visit, delegates toured media organisations, observed modern broadcasting and digital newsroom operations, and exchanged views with Chinese media professionals on newsroom practices, audience engagement and emerging media technologies.
