PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities have arrested the man accused of assaulting and strangling a woman in a case of domestic violence in Cannon Beach.
Joshua A. Gervolstad faces felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident with his girlfriend on May 6. Two days later, officials arrested him at Little Yellow House, a restaurant on S Hemlock Street.

He is accused of several charges, including assault, strangulation, criminal mistreatment, attempted murder, coercion, and menacing — all classed as domestic violence.
“Domestic abuse is a serious and often hidden crime that affects individuals and families across all communities,” according to Cannon Beach police. “It can involve physical violence, emotional manipulation, coercive control, and other forms of abuse by a partner, ex-partner, or family member.”

The girlfriend is in critical condition and receiving treatment at a Portland-area hospital, according to police.
