PM Modi congratulates Armenian counterpart on poll win, thanks him for Iran aid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday received a phone call from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which he expressed gratitude for Armenia’s assistance in evacuating Indian nationals stranded in Iran amid recent developments in West Asia.

PM Modi also congratulated Pashinyan on the electoral victory of his Civil Contract Party in Armenia’s parliamentary elections, reaffirming India’s intent to deepen bilateral ties.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was delighted to speak with Pashinyan and praised the successful conduct of the elections. He also thanked the Armenian leadership for facilitating the safe evacuation of Indian citizens affected by the situation in Iran.

“Congratulated him and his party on their victory in the recently held Parliamentary elections in Armenia. Thanked him for facilitating the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Iran following the recent developments in West Asia,” he wrote.

“We reaffirmed our shared commitment to further strengthen our warm and multifaceted partnership across key sectors, including trade, defence, technology and people-to-people ties. We look forward to working closely together to take India-Armenia relations to new heights,” he further added.

Both leaders discussed strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, defence, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Modi said India looks forward to working closely with Armenia to further elevate bilateral relations.

Earlier on June 8, Modi had also congratulated Pashinyan on his party’s electoral performance as preliminary results indicated a decisive win for the Civil Contract Party.

According to reported figures, the party secured nearly 49.81 per cent of the vote in the parliamentary elections, reinforcing its position in Armenia’s political landscape.
