Class 5A, 4A

Player of the Year: Abigail Heidbrink, Brusly, So.

The trust Brusly softball coach Beau Bouvier has in his pitcher Abigail Heidbrink was evident during a game against Parkview Baptist on March 31.

In the seventh inning, the Eagles hit a home run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Bouvier came out to the circle to talk to Heidbrink. They differed on what pitch to go with next, but Bouvier trusted his sophomore star.

She then executed her pitches to seal the victory.

“Whenever I went out there to talk to her, I wanted to do something else, and she wanted to go with this pitch,” Bouvier said. “I trusted her, and we went with it, and it worked out.”

Heidbrink stacked up stellar performances throughout the year to help Brusly reach the Division II nonselect state title game. The sophomore finished the season with a 25-7 record and a 1.55 ERA across 171⅔ innings. She struck out 219 batters and walked 40.
