Agartala: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Union Ministry of AYUSH has accepted the Tripura government‘s application to establish a government Ayurvedic medical college and hospital at Udaipur in Gomati district with an intake capacity of 60 students from the 2026-27 academic session, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Friday.
Sharing the development in a social media post, Saha said the proposal for setting up the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital had been accepted by the commission.
“I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026–27,” he said.
According to an acceptance letter issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NCISM on June 18, the commission accepted the state’s application seeking permission to establish the institution at Tepania, Udaipur, under Section 29 of the NCISM Act, 2020.
The letter stated that the application, submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department on December 30, 2025, for starting a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course with an annual intake of 60 seats from the 2026-27 academic session, had been accepted and would be processed in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The commission also informed the state government that applications for the establishment of new undergraduate Ayurvedic medical colleges with an intake capacity of 60 seats would be considered from the 2026-27 academic session onwards, subject to the fulfilment of prescribed requirements and statutory provisions.
In his post, Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support towards strengthening healthcare and medical education and said the proposed institution would help expand Ayurvedic education and healthcare services in the state.
The proposed college would be the first government Ayurvedic medical college in Tripura.
