ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) has named fifth-generation Brownton farmer Ryan Mackenthun as its new president, positioning the veteran advocate to lead the organization into its 65th year of grassroots lobbying.
Mackenthun succeeds Wells farmer Darin Johnson, who steps down after a two-year tenure to return to a standard director role. Johnson will continue to represent Minnesota growers on the American Soybean Association (ASA) national board.
“The value that we’ve brought back to our farmers and members through our advocacy efforts is sizable,” Mackenthun said following his appointment. “I hope to just continue on that path that leads to better profitability and stronger markets for Minnesota soybeans.”
Mackenthun steps into the presidency with extensive institutional knowledge, having recently completed two terms as MSGA vice president alongside Johnson. He previously served stints as both secretary and treasurer for the organization, and has chaired internal committees overseeing market expansion, research initiatives, and the annual MN Ag Expo.
Mackenthun manages a 2,200-acre corn and soybean operation in McLeod County with his wife, Tonya, and their three children. His state-level involvement launched significantly in 2019 when he was named MSGA’s American Soybean Association Young Leader.
