Rockstar Games has announced the pre-order date for its highly anticipated video game, ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ (GTA 6). This new entry in the GTA franchise will be available for pre-order starting June 25, 2026, via “digital storefronts and select retailers.” The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
Additionally, Rockstar Games has released the official cover art, which is available for download at www.rockstargames.com/VI. The website also hosts various media assets—such as wallpapers, screenshots, and videos—offering a glimpse into GTA 6.
The game was originally slated for release in the fall of 2025 but was initially postponed to May 26, 2026. However, before 2025 concluded, the developer announced a second delay, pushing the launch date back by another six months to November 19, 2026. At the time, the developer apologized and stated that the extra time would help further refine the game.
With the pre-order date now set, it is unlikely that Rockstar will delay the release any further. ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ has been long-awaited, given that its predecessor (GTA 5) was released over a decade ago, in 2013.
The long wait for a successor to this open-world crime game even spawned a popular meme: whenever gamers witnessed something bizarre or surprising, they would often remark, “We got [XYZ] before GTA 6.”
The developer released the game’s first trailer in December 2023, revealing details about its impending arrival and the initial launch window. The trailer created a massive sensation. It shattered viewership records within 24 hours and currently boasts over 281 million views on YouTube alone. It also kept gamers engrossed, as they spent weeks meticulously analyzing every frame of the 90-second clip.
The game’s second trailer arrived over a year later, in May 2025, offering a closer look at the game’s setting and its two protagonists, Jason and Lucia. This video has already garnered 166 million views on YouTube.
GTA 6 will not only feature the franchise’s first female lead (Lucia) but will also take gamers back to ‘Vice City.’ This is a fictional city inspired by Miami, which previously appeared with a neon aesthetic in ‘GTA Vice City.’ ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ will be released on current-generation consoles—PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S—on launch day. Rockstar has not yet confirmed the game’s availability on PC.
Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, stated in an interview that they view console gamers as their primary customer base for a release of this magnitude. Notably, the game is not strictly limited to consoles, and the company has not ruled out a PC release for GTA 6.
