Michelin-recognized dim sum restaurant Tim Ho Wan to shut 13-year-old Singapore outlet

The outlet at Plaza Singapura shopping mall, which marked Tim Ho Wan’s entry into the city-state in 2013, will serve its last customers on July 12, the chain said in a social media post on Thursday.

“Since opening in 2013, this is where our journey began — filled with cherished memories, family gatherings, and countless dim sum moments shared with all of you,” it said.

The restaurant attracted queues of up to three hours when it debuted. Over the years, it became a popular spot for nearby office workers and students, as well as families on weekends, according to AsiaOne.

Tim Ho Wan said the closure is part of Plaza Singapura’s redevelopment. That mall and another one, The Atrium@Orchard, are set for a S$160 million (US$124 million) revamp scheduled for the last two quarters of 2026, The Straits Times reported in April, citing a business update by landlord CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust.

The project aims to strengthen Plaza Singapura’s appeal along the Orchard Road shopping belt by upgrading its facilities and introducing a refreshed mix of tenants targeted at both locals and tourists.

Founded in Hong Kong in March 2009, Tim Ho Wan began as a 20-seat eatery focused on offering premium dim sum at affordable prices.

Its Sham Shui Po restaurant in Hong Kong earned a Michelin star in 2010, with headlines around that time dubbing the chain “the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant.”

That outlet continued to receive the Bib Gourmand distinction earlier this year, extending its run of Michelin recognition to 17 consecutive years. It currently has 39 outlets across the Asia-Pacific, including nine in Singapore.
