Ana Candia Evora, the mother of Cape Verde’s goalkeeper Vozinha, is heading to the US

Ana Cândida Évora, the mother of Cape Verde’s goalkeeper Vozinha is finally on her way to the US to see her son play in the World Cup.

Forty-year-old Vozinha became an overnight global sensation after playing a starring role in Cape Verde’s draw against highly fancied Spain, in the country’s first ever match in the finals.

Évora had not been able to travel initially due to the high costs of obtaining a visa to the US. The BBC understands she will fly to the US between Friday and Saturday, so she can see Sunday’s clash between Cape Verde and Uruguay in Miami. ⁣⁣

“I’m taking a special energy to the Cape Verdeans there. We’re going to fight and shine on that pitch,” she said in an exclusive interview with the BBC.⁣
