The official added that Israel will not back down from its positions, which include keeping forces deployed in the region south of the Litani River in Lebanon.
A second Israeli official told Reuters that the outcome of the talks would depend on whether US President Donald Trump will stand his ground and threaten Israel with severe consequences if it does not comply with the terms of the temporary agreement with Iran.
Israel expanded its incursion into southern Lebanon after Hezbollah opened fire on it on March 2 in support of its ally, Iran.
Since then, Israel has launched a devastating air and ground campaign against Lebanon, stating that the objective is to eliminate the Hezbollah group.
