Victim identified in West Ashley shooting near middle school

WEST ASHLEY — The person who recently died from a shooting near C.E. Williams Elementary School and the Bees Ferry Library has been identified, the Charleston County Coroner reported.

Leon Deas, 30, of Charleston died at Roper Hospital at 2:44 a.m. on June 13, 2026, from a gunshot wound.

Deputies had responded at 2:18 a.m. June 14 to the 3100 block of Sanders Road.

At the time, investigators learned that three people suffering from gunshot wounds had gone to local hospitals for treatment. Two men, aged 26 and 27, were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment.

Deas was the third individual, unnamed at the time. He was taken to Roper St. Francis on Henry Tecklenburg Drive where he was pronounced dead.
