Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said June 15 would mark a significant day in Kerala’s history with the State-level inauguration of the Priyadarshini scheme, which offers free travel for women and transgender persons on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses across the State. He said the scheme would not only make KSRTC more people-friendly but also mark the beginning of a major transformation in the corporation.

The district-level inauguration of the scheme will be held at 9 a.m. at the Ernakulam Boat Jetty bus stand.

The event will be inaugurated by Hibi Eden, MP. Mr. Satheesan said KSRTC would be run on professional lines based on detailed studies. He was speaking after flagging off four new KSRTC buses deployed on the Aluva–Paravur route.

In response to numerous public complaints, the government decided to urgently deploy new buses on the route.

If the trial run of the new services proves successful, more buses will be introduced. Two ordinary buses and two town-to-town buses have commenced operations on the route.

The government’s focus is on ensuring the best possible public transport services, he said, adding that significant changes would be visible in KSRTC within the next six months.

The function, held at the KSRTC bus stand in Paravur, was attended by municipal chairperson Ramesh D. Kurup, North Paravur Assistant Transport Officer A. Anil Kumar, and other departmental officials.
