The Head of the Delegation of the European Union and Special Representative of the EU to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca, assessed that the latest public opinion poll, according to which 74.4 percent of Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens support the accession of the country to the European Union, sends a powerful message to political actors to listen to the public and take action.
Commenting on the results of the research conducted by Custom Concept on behalf of the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Soreca stated that the support of Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens for EU membership has increased by 4.5 percentage points compared to last year.
“These numbers are a powerful message. The majority of Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens know that EU membership means a safer and more prosperous future. Political actors need to listen to the public and act now,” Soreca said.
According to the poll results, if a referendum were to be held tomorrow with the question “Do you support Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the EU?”, 74.4 percent of respondents would vote in favor of European Union membership. Soreca emphasized that the research shows majority support for the European path across the entire country.
According to the published data, EU integration is supported by 86.1 percent of respondents in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 54.1 percent in Republika Srpska, and 74.7 percent in the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In comparison to previous years, support for EU membership this year is higher than in 2025, when it stood at 69.9 percent. In 2024, support amounted to 71.2 percent, and in 2023, it was 73.3 percent.
Soreca concluded that the European Union remains a loyal partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The public opinion poll was conducted in April-May 2026 by CATI method on a sample of 1,200 adult respondents.
