Hats off to the entire team for the fight shown. If we continue like this, it will be difficult for anyone to beat us, said defender Tarik Muharemović after the first match of the BiH football team at the 2026 World Cup and the draw (1:1) with the host Canada in Toronto.
BiH took the lead at the BMO Field stadium, in front of exactly 43,002 spectators, with a goal by Jove Lukić in the 21st minute, and Cyle Larin scored the equalizing goal in the 79th.
The draw at the start of the World Cup with the host Canada was seen by the Bosnian national team squad as a satisfactory outcome at the start of the campaign, reports Fena’s correspondent from Toronto.
After the 1:1, Tarik Muharemović was very pleased.
“I am very happy, an important point, and it could have been three. Hats off to the whole team for the fight shown. If we continue like this, it will be difficult for anyone to beat us,” said the defender.
He added that the goal is always to achieve even better results and that BiH has two more games to prove it.
Right-back Amar Dedić also expressed satisfaction with the point, especially considering the circumstances.
“We played on their field, a very demanding and intense match. There was not much play, but a lot of fight. All in all, we can be satisfied with the point. We are happy, this was not easy, and we succeeded,” he assessed.
The “Dragons” will continue their group stage competition with matches against Switzerland (June 18 in Los Angeles) and Qatar (June 24 in Seattle), while the second match of the first round in Group B, the Qatar vs. Switzerland duel, will be played on Saturday at 9 p.m., Fena writes.
