KDPS seeks help identifying possible vandalism suspects who did $100,000 in damage

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help to identify several people likely connected to an act of vandalism that happened last month at the Bow in the Clouds Preserve.

According to KDPS, three individuals were seen walking in the preserve and knocking over barricades around noon on April 25. After a brief interaction with them, an on-site employee set up a camera to monitor the area.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. later that day, five people returned to the preserve and damaged several pieces of excavating equipment with baseball bats and spray paint. According to KDPS, the vandals caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

“Several spray-painted messages were left behind, indicating clear protest against the equipment’s presence at the site,” KDPS said in a news release.

KDPS is asking anyone who knows more about the incident or the people involved to reach out to the department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 269.337.8139 or through the city’s Silent Observer tip line.
