Malta Tops EU Ranking For Business Use Of Social Media

Malta has ranked first in the European Union for business use of social media, with nearly nine out of every 10 enterprises actively using social platforms in 2025.

New EU data shows that 88.2% of Maltese enterprises with 10 or more employees use social media, the highest rate among all EU member states.

Malta was followed by Finland at 87.6% and Denmark at 86.1%, while Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary recorded the lowest levels of business social media use.

Across the European Union, 63.6% of enterprises reported using social media in 2025, up from 61.1% in 2023.

Businesses use social media for a variety of reasons, including increasing their online visibility, marketing products and services, communicating with customers and partners, and facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

The figures also show that larger businesses are more likely to use social media. Across the EU, 60.6% of small enterprises use social media, compared to 76.2% of medium-sized businesses and 89.1% of large enterprises.

Malta’s top ranking reflects the country’s strong adoption of digital tools and the growing importance of social media in the way businesses connect with customers and promote their services.
