Tuvu Families Gain Reliable Water Supply

Eleven families in Tuvu Settlement, Nailaga, Ba, now have access to a reliable source of clean water following the commissioning of the Tuvu Phase 5 Water Project by Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu.

The newly installed borehole water system is serving 38 residents across 11 households, providing a safe and sustainable water supply for women, children, elderly residents and people living with disabilities.

For more than 20 years, families in the settlement relied on a nearby creek, rainwater collection and water carting services to meet their daily water needs, often facing difficulties in securing a dependable supply.

Tuvu Cemetery Road Water Committee President Hermant Kumar welcomed the project, describing it as a long-awaited solution for the community after more than two decades of challenges accessing clean water.

The project was funded through the Ministry’s Self-Help Programme at a cost of more than $37,000. It is expected to improve sanitation and public health while reducing the time and effort residents previously spent sourcing water.

Speaking at the commissioning, Minister Bulitavu said access to clean and safe water remains a key priority of the Government’s rural development programme.

He noted that the project demonstrates the impact of targeted infrastructure investments in improving living standards and supporting the wellbeing of rural communities.

The Tuvu Phase 5 Water Project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure, improve service delivery and enhance socio-economic outcomes in underserved areas.
