South Korea adapts to a security landscape shaped by China and doubt about US

South Korea is increasingly preparing for a security environment that extends beyond North Korea, with China emerging as a factor in defense planning and U.S. allies seeking deeper cooperation amid questions about the future shape of American security commitments, according to the inaugural Korea Chair at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

In an interview with Korea Proon the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Dr. Lami Kim discussed how South Korea’s security establishment views China, the growing importance of partnerships with countries such as Australia, Canada and European partners, and the challenges surrounding Seoul’s plans
