Russia has delivered a new batch of food products for school meals to Tajikistan

A ceremony was held in Dushanbe for the delivery of the next batch of humanitarian aid sent by the Russian Federation for the implementation of the United Nations World Food Programme’s School Feeding Programme in Tajikistan.

The shipment included 121.4 tons of sunflower oil enriched with vitamins A and D, as well as 135 tons of yellow split peas. The products are intended to provide meals for students in rural schools of the republic.

A similar ceremony will soon take place in Khujand. For the northern region of the country, 61.7 tons of sunflower oil and 67.5 tons of peas will be delivered.

The UN WFP School Feeding Programme has been implemented in Tajikistan since 1999 and is the organization’s largest project in the republic, which has been funded by Russia since 2013. During this period, the Russian Federation has allocated more than $90 million for the implementation of the programme in the republic.

Within its framework, about 450,000 primary school students in approximately 2,000 schools across 53 districts and cities of the republic receive daily hot meals.

As part of the programme, 50 school canteens, several greenhouse farms, bakeries, and one food plant have been renovated and equipped with modern equipment.

Russia will continue to assist Tajikistan in organizing school meals within the framework of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) deliveries until the system is fully supported by the country’s government, said Vera Khutorskaya, Counselor-Envoy of the Russian Embassy in Tajikistan, to journalists, writes TASS.
