As Malawi seeks to unlock the full potential of its digital economy, ICT stakeholders have been urged to strengthen collaboration and innovation, with industry leaders saying partnerships will be critical in driving digital transformation and addressing emerging technological challenges.
The call was made on Tuesday in Lilongwe during a cheque presentation ceremony where technology firm Datacom Malawi Limited donated K10 million towards the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) ICT Expo 2026.
Speaking during the event, Datacom Managing Director Moses Nthakomwa said Malawi’s digital future depends on strong collaboration among industry players, innovators and ICT professionals.
“Datacom believes that Malawi’s digital future depends on strong collaboration between industry players, innovators, and ICT professionals. ICTAM has consistently provided a platform for innovation, policy engagement, skills development, and digital transformation. Our support reflects our commitment to strengthening the ICT ecosystem in Malawi,” said Nthakomwa.
He said ICTAM has created an important platform for stakeholders to engage on key issues affecting the sector and promote innovation and skills development.
Nthakomwa added that supporting the expo aligns with Datacom’s vision of advancing digital inclusion and encouraging the adoption of modern technologies across the country.
Meanwhile, ICTAM representative Jacqueline Kamdima hailed the support, describing it as a timely contribution towards preparations for the annual event.
“The support by Datacom is timely and will go a long way aiding us to fulfil our mandate to bring together industry players to discuss pertinent issues affecting the industry,” said Kamdima.
Kamdima said ICTAM is targeting K200 million to host the expo and has so far raised K120 million.
She said the event will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues shaping the future of Malawi’s digital economy and identify solutions to challenges facing the ICT sector.
The ICT Expo 2026, underway in Lilongwe is being held under the theme “Unlocking Malawi’s Digital Economy: ICT Exports, Trusted Payments and Fraud Resilience,” bringing together ICT professionals, policymakers, innovators and businesses to discuss digital fraud, trusted payment systems and other emerging technology issues, while fostering partnerships aimed at accelerating Malawi’s digital transformation.
