Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Y.S. Sharmila on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) criticised the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for what she called a malicious campaign against her father, late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and her grandfather Y.S. Raja Reddy.

“Why did the TDP fail to investigate or act against them when it was previously in power if the allegations were genuine?” she posted on X, and accused the ruling coalition of indulging in “cheap politics” to divert attention from governance failures. She said the government had no significant achievements to show even after two years in office.

‘Outsiders’ lobbying to enter Rajya Sabha from Karnataka Congress

Ms. Sharmila described Raja Reddy as a leader who stood by the poor in Rayalaseema, and listed his contributions, including establishing a 70-bed hospital in Kadapa in 1973 and setting up educational institutions that provided free medical care and education to underprivileged students.

She said landmark schemes such as Aarogyasri, fee reimbursement, loan waivers and free electricity reflected YSR’s vision. She also credited him with initiating the Polavaram project and completing 33% of the works within five years.
