Grenadian company signs on as founding member of Caribbean Special Economic Zone Association

Citez Grenada Ltd., a Grenadian-owned economic development company, has signed on as a founding member in support of the newly formed Caribbean Special Economic Zone Association (Cari SEZA), marking an important milestone for the Eastern Caribbean’s participation in the future of regional special economic zone development.

Citez participation positions the Eastern Caribbean within a growing regional movement to strengthen the design, governance, performance and global visibility of Special Economic Zones across the Caribbean.

Cari SEZA is a regional, non-governmental, not-for-profit body dedicated to improving coordination between Special Economic Zones, investment promotion agencies, policymakers, and international partners. The initiative is being backed by regional leaders, the World Free Zones Organisation (WFZO), the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), and the Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority, which served as thought leaders and co-authors of the framework.

The framework for Cari SEZA was presented during the World Free Zones Organisation 12th Annual World Congress in Panama City, where it secured the endorsement of regional SEZs and authorities. The announcement represents a significant step toward giving the Caribbean a more coordinated and influential voice within the global free zones ecosystem.

For Citez Grenada, becoming part of Cari SEZA reflects the company’s broader mission to help position the Eastern Caribbean as a strategic platform for trade, investment, business services, tourism, culture, technology, workforce development and future-ready industries.

Cory Zufelt, Founder of Citez Grenada Ltd., said the decision to sign on is about ensuring the Eastern Caribbean is represented early in the regional conversation. “Grenada has an opportunity to be part of shaping the next generation of Caribbean economic zones. Free zones are no longer only about warehousing, manufacturing, or tax incentives. Globally, they are becoming platforms for services, digital trade, investment, tourism, culture, innovation, workforce development, and clean, trusted commerce. Citez Grenada is proud to support the formation of Cari SEZA and to ensure Grenada has a seat at the table as the region builds a more coordinated approach.”

Citez is currently advancing a proposed 100+ acre private-sector-led economic development platform within the Eastern Caribbean. The project is structured around physical development, digital onboarding, business services, investment facilitation, migration support, workforce development, local supplier linkages and long-term enterprise growth.

The formation of Cari SEZA comes at a time when countries across the Caribbean are looking for new ways to attract resilient investment, diversify beyond traditional sectors, and build more coordinated regional platforms.

Citez believes Grenada can play an important role in this next chapter by developing a modern, transparent, locally anchored and internationally connected economic platform that creates opportunities for investors, businesses, workers, entrepreneurs, and Grenadians at home and in the diaspora.

“Our goal is to help build a model where global capital connects to local opportunity,” added Zufelt. “For Grenada, this means creating pathways for business formation, cultural exports, workforce development, digital services, tourism-linked investment, and local enterprise growth. Being part of Cari SEZA strengthens our ability to learn, collaborate and align with regional and international best practices.”
