INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Scattered storms are expected to move through south-central Indiana today, with rain chances increasing through the morning
Early This Morning: Showers Already Moving Through
Radar is already showing a broken line of showers and a few storms pushing northward across far south-central Indiana, associated with a weak disturbance that will continue drifting north before stalling around daybreak. Rain chances increase through the morning as moisture deepens across the region, though far northwestern counties may see little to no measurable rainfall where some drier air is holding on.
A brief lull is possible around mid-morning.
This Afternoon: Storms Redevelop, Locally Heavy Rain Possible
Daytime heating will fire additional storms this afternoon. Severe weather is not expected.
The bigger concern is locally heavy rainfall. Heavy rain along with slow-moving storms with some potential for training over the same areas could produce significant local totals. With many areas water logged from the last couple of weeks, some flooding is very possible in those specific areas that pick up high amounts of rainfall.
Highs today reach the upper 70s to low 80s — warm and humid.
This Evening: Rain Exits, Skies Clear
A disturbance pushing in from the northwest this afternoon will finally sweep the stalled system out of the area, and rain chances will drop off quickly during the late afternoon and evening hours as drier air filters in. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 50s to low 60s as skies clear.
Thursday Through Early Next Week: Dry and Pleasant
Once today’s storms clear, the forecast becomes refreshingly simple. An Omega Block pattern locking high pressure over the central U.S. and Canada will keep the region dry and settled through at least early next week.
Thursday stays warm in upper 70s and lower 80s, then temperatures ease to a comfortable mid-to-upper 70s through the weekend — sunny and dry. After one of the more relentlessly soggy stretches in recent memory, it’s a well-earned break.
Long range pattern looks to keep the dry and pleasant weather around for a while, with cooler than normal temps and below average precipitation for the first week of June.
