Agartala: Protests erupted across colleges affiliated with Tripura University over the delay in publication of fifth-semester results and alleged discrepancies in online grade cards, prompting the varsity to extend the examination form fill-up deadline till May 28.
Students of Women’s College in Agartala staged demonstrations and blocked a road on Friday, alleging that errors in the university portal were affecting academic records and examination eligibility.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which supported the protest, accused the university administration of failing to address repeated complaints raised by students over the past several weeks.
The students alleged that a large number of fifth-semester examinees were yet to receive their results despite upcoming final semester examinations. They also claimed that several cleared back papers were not reflected in the portal, potentially affecting eligibility for appearing in sixth-semester examinations.
At a press conference, ABVP leaders alleged that in some cases, students who had appeared for examinations were shown as absent in grade cards uploaded online.
They further claimed that some students who sought rectification of errors were later marked as failed in subjects in which they had earlier been declared passed.
The student body also raised concerns over the possible impact of delayed results on admissions to postgraduate courses through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-PG).
University authorities attributed the situation to technical problems in the digital platform used for uploading results and maintaining student records.
An official from the university’s examination department said over 30,000 students had appeared in the fifth-semester examinations and that the portal was facing difficulties in processing and displaying large volumes of academic data.
“In view of the technical issues, the form fill-up date has been extended till May 28,” the official said.
The official added that affiliated colleges had been authorised to conduct offline form fill-up in accordance with UGC guidelines if the portal-related issues were not resolved within the extended period.
“The principals of the concerned colleges have been empowered to supervise offline form submission if necessary,” he said.
The university administration also said that its Finance Officer and Registrar were currently in Kolkata for discussions related to software development and resolution of technical issues affecting the examination portal.
