Eswatini and Azerbaijan forge new trade and investment links at Baku forum

BAKU, Azerbaijan – A high-level delegation from the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) met with Azerbaijan’s Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) in Baku to establish bilateral trade partnerships and secure investment commitments.

Led by the EIPA Executive Head for Investment Promotion, the Eswatini delegation held talks with AZPROMO Executive Director Yusif Abdullayev on the sidelines of the UN-Habitat World Urban Forum. The meeting resulted in an agreement for an Azerbaijani business delegation to attend the upcoming Eswatini Investment Conference, alongside an invitation for Eswatini to participate in the second Azerbaijan Business Forum in September 2026.

The two nations identified specific goods for bilateral exchange based on their respective economic strengths. Azerbaijan proposes to export petroleum products, lubricants, oil derivatives, and hazelnuts to Eswatini. Conversely, Eswatini seeks to market its primary export commodities, including sugar and textiles, to the Azerbaijani market.

The delegations focused on knowledge sharing and reviewed existing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). While specific trade pipelines are being finalized, both parties agreed to draft and sign a new comprehensive MoU to formalize the broadening economic relationship.

The Eswatini delegation, which also included the Director for International Cooperation and the Director for MSME, extended its diplomatic outreach beyond AZPROMO. The team held separate talks with the President of the Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Niyaz Ali-zadeh, and his leadership team to discuss private-sector business linkages.
