American tourism to Croatia recorded a significant increase in 2025, with overnight stays by visitors from the United States rising by 31.7%, according to data just published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics. The strong growth places the US among the fastest-growing long-haul markets for Croatia during the year.

Overall, Croatian travel agencies organised trips for 2.3 million foreign tourists in Croatia in 2025, generating 12.5 million overnight stays. This represents a modest annual increase of 1.8% in arrivals and 0.2% in nights, indicating a stable performance in inbound tourism.

The United States, alongside other key long-haul markets, showed particularly strong momentum. American tourists also recorded a notable rise in cruise and circular travel segments, where their overnight stays increased by 35.1%, reaching 198,000 nights.

Germany remained Croatia’s largest source market, accounting for 27.0% of total foreign tourist overnight stays organised by Croatian agencies.

The United Kingdom followed with 10.9%, while Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, the United States and Slovakia also featured among the top ten markets.

Across all foreign visitors, Germany, the UK and Poland recorded slight declines compared to 2024, while growth was observed from the United States, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Italy.

The data also shows that foreign tourists most commonly stayed in apartments, rooms and holiday homes, accounting for 54.9% of all overnight stays arranged by Croatian agencies.

Croatia’s air connectivity with the United States continues to strengthen in 2026. United Airlines launched a new nonstop service between Newark and Split, marking the first direct connection between the US and central Dalmatia, further improving access to the Adriatic region for American travellers.

The most popular destination for Croatian travellers was Italy, which accounted for 25.8% of all outbound trips.

Other leading destinations included:

• Bosnia and Herzegovina – 7.1%

• Austria – 6.2%

• France – 5.5%

• Spain – 5.0%

• Germany – 4.5%

• Slovenia – 4.5%

• Hungary – 4.4%

• Turkey – 3.3%

• Czech Republic – 2.5%

Overall, the figures confirm Croatia’s continued appeal across both European and long-haul markets, with the United States standing out as one of the strongest growth contributors in 2025.
