MUSCAT : Oman’s Public Prosecution has warned that publishing news, photographs or comments that infringe on the private or family life of individuals without their consent is a punishable offence under the Penal Code, even if the information shared is true.

In a legal awareness message issued under its “Missing Link” campaign, the Public Prosecution cited Article 330 of the Penal Code, stating that individuals found guilty of such violations may face imprisonment for up to one year.

The authority stressed that sharing or circulating private information, images or remarks related to a person’s personal or family affairs without approval constitutes a breach of privacy rights and may result in criminal liability.

The Public Prosecution urged the public to exercise responsibility while using social media and digital platforms, warning against content that harms the dignity, reputation or privacy of others.
