Drunk duo held for attacking architect couple in Bengaluru road rage incident

A 29-year-old architect and her husband were allegedly threatened, abused and attacked by two drunk men, who intercepted their car near Hesaraghatta Road in Doddabelavangala police station limits on Thursday afternoon.

The complainant, identified as Rachana Bharath, alleged that the accused blocked her car while she was returning home.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 1.20 p.m. on May 15 near Nandi village on Hesaraghatta Road when a car allegedly stopped across the road and obstructed her vehicle. When she honked seeking passage, one of the accused reportedly approached the driver-side window, abused the couple in foul language and demanded that the window be rolled down.

Rachana alleged that the man snatched her mobile phone after noticing that she had taken photographs of him and took her photos too.

She immediately contacted her husband and relatives for help.

The accused allegedly drove ahead for about 500 metres before once again blocking the complainant’s car. Two men then got out of the vehicle and allegedly threatened to break open the car window using stones if the occupants did not open the doors.

When Bharath, her husband, reached the spot and demanded that the photographs be deleted, the accused allegedly pushed and assaulted him.

The situation was brought under control after the complainant’s relatives, identified as Prakash and Lakshmikanth, reached the spot and intervened.

The accused were later identified as Mahesh B. Muniyappa of Dasanahalli village and Govinda Raju B., 39. The complainant alleged that both men were under the influence of alcohol and also verbally abused them.

Based on the complaint, the Doddabelavangala Police Station registered a case under Sections 126(2), 109, 352, 78 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and arrested the accused. They were later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
