Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on May 15 completed four years in office as the head of the state’s political executive. Addressing media persons on Saturday, he listed key achievements of his government and said he was satisfied with several ongoing initiatives.

Dr Saha said he was particularly pleased with efforts to strengthen and reform the education sector. He noted that many students earlier went outside the state for higher studies, but the government has now brought in several educational institutions to set up campuses within Tripura. He also said new state universities have been established.

According to him, colleges for Homeopathic and Ayurvedic medicine are expected to become functional from the next academic session. “All these works are very close to my heart,” said Dr Saha.

Speaking on governance, he said a sense of healthy competition had developed among different departments. He added that development remained the government’s only focus.

On the health sector, he said several positive changes had been introduced, including regular recruitment of doctors and increased medical manpower.

He also noted that the Centre had approved funds for healthcare expansion and additional medical seats. “I would not say that we have delivered what was promised but we are working wholeheartedly to achieve the saturation point. The centre has sanctioned funds for the healthcare and we have also got approval for additional medical seats.”

Dr Saha said the government had also made significant progress in infrastructure development. He further highlighted achievements in sectors such as sports, agriculture, and renewable energy. He said sports infrastructure, including synthetic tracks and grounds, had been developed across the state. He also claimed improvement in agricultural output and said Tripura was performing well in the renewable energy sector compared to many other states.

Highlighting governance reforms, he identified transparent recruitment and law and order as major pillars of his administration’s performance. He said more than 20,000 government jobs had been provided since 2018 and claimed that Tripura ranked among the lowest states in terms of overall crime.

He added, “Since 2018, we have given more than 20,000 jobs. In terms of law and order, we are ranked as the third lowest state in terms of overall crime. We have excelled in almost all parameters of governance and if you ask me I am not fully satisfied as it is a continuing process.”
