Acting Prime Minister Receives Africa-EU Parliamentary Leader

MBABANE Acting Prime Minister Dr Thambo Gina, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Pholile Shakantu, received the Co-President of the Africa-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Hilde Vautmans, during a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening development cooperation between Eswatini and its international partners.

The meeting took place on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Private and Cabinet Offices in Mbabane. The meeting was centred on enhancing collaboration between the OACPS and the European Union, with discussions highlighting opportunities to deepen partnerships that support Eswatini’s socio-economic development agenda.

Eswatini Appreciates Continued EU Support

During the engagement, Acting Prime Minister Dr Gina expressed the Kingdom’s gratitude for the European Union’s continued support across various sectors, underscoring the importance of sustained cooperation in advancing national development priorities.

The discussions also reflected a shared commitment to reinforcing ties between Eswatini and European partners through stronger parliamentary and diplomatic engagement.

Praise for Eswatini’s Hospitality and Beauty

Ms Vautmans commended Eswatini for its scenic beauty and warm hospitality, describing the Kingdom as welcoming and expressing regret at not having more time to explore the country.

“I wish I had more time to tour the country,” she remarked, while applauding the atmosphere and reception she had experienced during her visit.

Assembly Nears Conclusion

Ms Vautmans is in Eswatini to participate in the inaugural Africa-EU Parliamentary Assembly, which is expected to conclude on Thursday. The gathering has brought together parliamentary leaders and policymakers to discuss key issues affecting cooperation between Africa and the European Union, including development, governance and shared prosperity.
