A thick smoke began emanating from the engine of a private travel bus travelling from Vijayawada towards Bengaluru on the national highway within the Singarayakonda Mandal in the Prakasam district. The driver promptly pulled the bus over to the roadside after noticing the smoke.
ASI Ravi and Constable Rajendra, on night duty, arrived at the scene and safely evacuated all 46 passengers. The passengers, filled with panic as smoke filled the bus, remained stranded by the roadside for around five hours.
Tensions arose when the passengers argued with the bus staff over the lack of alternative arrangements, as the travel agency failed to provide another vehicle. Police intervened and organised for the passengers to be transported to their respective destinations in a different bus. The incident has been praised as a major disaster narrowly avoided thanks to the swift action of the police.
